I've seen this happen a few times — my DMC stands in the middle of the pitch with the ball until an opponent comes and robs him, rushes to the goal and scores. What the heck? I don't have him set to "hold up ball", so how can I have him get rid of the ball rather than stand there like a statue???

well,you got to make sure that he can some open player to pass the ball,and it depends on what passing you told him to do.

it happened to me,when i played 4-4-2 diamond.now i play regular 4-4-2.
four defenders in line,four midfielders in line and two strikers.
my both mc(which sometimes plays on DM) have "hold up ball" but they rarely loose the ball,and have great percent of successful passes.

I'll try setting him to "hold up ball" and see if that helps. It's a decent player (J Mascherano) so one would assume he'd have the intelligence to pass back to a defender, etc rather than get robbed. Grr....

well i told you,it depends on player and of course Mascherano is great,so try to make your midfield more compact.if you play diamond than try to play narrow.give him chance to pass to other players.
