I've only just installed the new patch, 5 games into a new game and 7 first team players (not to mention reserves, etc.) are out injured! Is this just bad luck or have other people noticed increased injuries since adding the patch?

look at ur players "injury prone" thingy thing. that might be "high" you can check this in FMM.
thing is its got nothing to do with the new patch, its with the players being injury prone or not that injury prone.
so if u really really really want to change this(because at times it gets really unrealistic) then change it in FMM, a player might have 80 on injury prone, then change it to like 45.
i mean if anyone buys "Sebastian Eguren" he has like 80 in dirtiness and gets like a yellow card every game, and every 6-7 games maybe a red.
thats totally unrealistic because i have seen him play alot, he plays hard but doesnt make that many fouls to get that many cards, so i usually change his dirtiness from 80 to 45 or 38.
now thats not cheating tbh. because there might be one player that might have one of these hidden attributes where its unrealistic.

It could also have something to do with your training schedules - if you are working them too hard.

try to have a 25-26 men squad with equal valued players....no indispensibles for the squad, no backup for the first team.try to give everybody a chance and you will see thar its no prob if your star players will get injured.its a bit tricky but i havent made a transfer in 2.5 years

thats hard to do tbh, but its every managers style of doing things.
i usually like to have a few versatile players, not just for back up but also first team, so if i have problems with one position he can most probably go into that position and do well til the other player recovers.
so i usually have 3 players for 1 position kind off.
