I've tried loads of times to install the patch, and the lastest FMsweden update, but I just can't get it working. I never get the option to select another database when I start the game.
With the patch I just open it and let it update the files, and with the update I paste the folder to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\data\db still no luck?
Any ideas?

It needs to go into your User data folder, where graphics & saved games are. Most people are located in My Documents and would read like this
"My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\db"
It's the db folder (in your user folder) that your update should be!

Yeah I've tried that too, but whenever I click new game it just loads straight up wtihout any option to choose my database. However if I go on to the data editor the Fmupdate, and the 8.01 are options to load. Feck knows.

go to option, graphic n sound, then check "load skin on confirm"...or something like that. not sure exact word...and something about no cache.

Still no luck, I had already tried that before from browsing the net for a solution. Pretty sure I'm doing everything I should be, It's doing my head in!
