Now Mata will cost you ALOT to sign as he has just moved from Chelsea to Manchester United. It will take around £80,000,000+ to tempt Manchester United into selling him, however he will really add something to your team if you sign him, so in my opinion, he's worth his price tag.
Now if you do get an offer accepted for him, he will ask for around 100k-120k a week, however you can try an negotiate a lower amount of wage for him but he'll usually demand about over 100k.
Mata is very versatile, meaning he can play in numerous positions, however in my personal experience, he is lethal just behind the striker, as an Advanced Playmaker or as an Attacking Midfielder, he can play any of these roles very well and can provide both goals and assists for your team.
However he is also very effective as a left winger, although it's not his preferred position, he can do a great job there. When I did a career with Manchester United, I decided to play Rooney behind van Persie and pushed Mata out to the right, and he got me lots of goals from that position so don't be afraid to play him there.
Mata is what you call a 'perfect number 10' as he has many attributes which can affect the game. He is very good at finishing and dribbling, but his main attribute is his passing. He can pick out his team mates from practically any angle and can get many assists if he is play in an attacking position.
However don't except Mata to help out defensively a lot, as he isn't the best at defending and can give away needless fouls, so if you do opt to play him on the wing, make sure you have a strong full-back playing on the same side as Mata.
Mata can become priceless to the club he plays for, so your best option is to try and sign him in the first summer transfer window or if his contract starts to run out, it will be a struggle to sign him but as I said earlier, he's worth it.
He reacts very well to your positive comments and almost always has good morale. He is a genuine nice guy and focuses solely on his performances. I wouldn't say he'd be your 'best captain' but he can be a very good vice captain as he has some good leadership skills.
Personally, Mata is one of my favourite players on FM14, he always ends up being on the shortlist for the Ballon d'Or and usually gets me around 14-20 goals per season and lots of assists.
If your in need of a number 10, Mata should be the player you should be looking at.
He's currently on 70,000 pounds a week, but you'll likely have to spend at least 100-120k a week on a new contract for him, but it's worth it.
He can play any of the forward positions, but is best at an attacking center midfielder. I play a strikerless 4-1-2-3 formation, and I play Mata exclusively on the right side (AMCR) as a shadow striker (attacking), and in this role he has been lethal. He's scored 29 goals in our only season together so far with one match to go, has 8 assists, and picked up 8 player of the match awards. Using him as a playmaker is not using him wisely, when he can be your main goal threat, with playmaking abilities as well.
He's an amazing passer and runner, although his finishing has something to be desired, he only has a 61% shots on target rate. He can score with free kicks, he is not a #9, he is not a #10, he is the best of both worlds.
He's currently worth 32.5 million pounds in 2017, and I think it'll grow a bit more, then decrease as he gets further on the wrong side of 30.
He hasn't given me nearly as many problems as Rooney, but Mata will demand Champions League football and will want to leave if you can't give it to him, he is currently refusing to negotiate with me despite unlocking the form of his life.
As Rablador can attest, I don't have enough superlatives to use to describe Juan Mata, who is up there with Manolo Gabbiadini in my Football Manager Hall of Fame.
