News - Miles Jacobson Admits FM26 Missed the Mark
Miles Jacobson, the head of Sports Interactive (SI), released an honest review of Football Manager 2026.

Usually, studio directors only talk about the good things, but this time, Miles is being open about what went wrong.

I tried to read between the lines to see what this means for the players and the future of the game.

The UI and Navigation Problems

The biggest complaint about FM26 has been the new look of the game (the User Interface). Miles admitted that they knew it wasn't popular with everyone.
It’s also clear many were frustrated by the changes to navigation and the loss of immersion compared to previous editions.
What this means:
SI tried to make the game work the same way on computers, consoles, and phones. Miles admits this was "detrimental" (bad) for many players. He basically says they tried to be too clever and it made the game harder to enjoy.

Why the Game Felt Different

Miles explained that FM26 was a huge challenge because they moved to a new engine (Unity). He admitted they had to cancel some of their biggest ideas because they were too difficult to finish in time.
We’d rolled back some of our more overambitious changes in FM26.
What this means:
The version of FM26 we are playing is actually "simpler" than what SI originally planned. They had to simplify the game just to get it released.

Taking Responsibility

In a moment of honesty, Miles said that the game is still not as good as it should be.
You expect nothing less than excellence... we haven’t got to that level. This is something I take full responsibility for.
What this means:
He isn't making excuses. He knows the fans are disappointed because FM26 didn't feel like a finished, "excellent" product at launch. He is promising that the studio is changing how they work to fix this.

What is the Future for FM?

Miles says the studio is now focusing on three main things: the game world, navigation, and the UI.
Immersion is the main element we're focused on... We are looking to elevate all of them.
What this means:
The next game (hints at FM27) will focus on making you feel "inside" the football world again. They want to make the menus easier to use and bring back the immersion of the older games that fans missed.

Conclusion

Miles is asking for trust. He knows that FM26 was a difficult start to a new era, but he believes the new engine (Unity) will allow them to fix the game faster than before.

FM26 is far from being perfect, but SI is finally admitting where they failed. Now, we have to wait and see if they can turn these words into actions. I personally feel that the next iteration will be pivotal for the franchise.

What do you think? Is this honest enough for you, or do you need to see the results first?

Here is a simple example of why the FM26 upgrade feels terrible. You can no longer arrange a friendly match from the main calendar where you can see existing fixtures. Instead, you have to choose from a completely blank calendar without knowing which dates are free. Even my 6-year-old son's desk calendar has more details on it! I might only have 12 hours of playtime, but I've already spotted a massive flaw. Playing as the Chelsea head coach, I have a 17-year-old newgen striker with a 2-star CA, 5-star PA, and defensive stats of 17. Yet, I can't tell him to retrain as a defender unless I manually move him to the first team first. There are tons of other dealbreakers in this version. While the graphics and fancy UI look nice, as a veteran player who started with FM13, I don't care about cosmetics. Previous versions were so engaging they made me feel like a real football manager. This version just feels like watching someone struggle through a badly optimized video game. I wouldn't be surprised if FM26 is being given away for free on pirate sites just to keep the player base alive, but players won't stay unless the core game is actually good.

Honestly, I think by this point most players don't care anymore about FM26. It's just a bad dream. For the sake of the series, let's hope someday we can forgive the studio about the mess they created in these two years and move on. Personally, I will still purchase FM27 out of curiosity, but my expectations will be lower than ever.

Miles Jacobson can say whatever he wants now. Nobody else will care.
The greed for profit has ruined everything (as always happens with greedy people in life).
    Have a nice day Milles...

I think its clear to me pre-purchasing FM 27 is not going to happen. I will try the demo, wait and see after the game is released.

After what has happened with Fm 26 the days where one simply purchased the new version are over.

Bro, where have you been all this time? You guys had more than two years to develop FM26, to the point of literally scrapping FM25 altogether. Naturally, our expectations were through the roof.

But instead of building on what worked, you started cutting corners on features that were already well-developed. You didn't just tweak things; you started fixing what wasn't broken and ended up making a complete mess of the whole game. Instead of making progress, you basically undid years of hard work.

Honestly, you seriously need to review your QA team or better yet, give them the boot. Now that it’s officially out, the game is riddled with bugs. It’s telling that the number of patches for FM26 is already off the charts compared to any previous version. It’s time to get your act together!

We're fed up with your nonsense. I won't buy version 27 without testing it and reading the reviews.

Taking Responsibility after 6 months since release and after almost 2 months of silence . When will these people realise that if you dont communicate you alienate your support group.
